as historical. It may be divided into four epochs, or phases. In the first epooh, he was the Midshipman of the man-of-war's
boat
boat which, in 1841, first hoisted
the British Flag
on the Island of
HongKong, then a barren and _ desolate rook, but which, after -
the lapse of little more than forty
has now become the third
years,
greatest mart of shipping in the British Empire, ranking
as
to
